A recent survey conducted jointly by Korn/Ferry International and The Economist Intelligence Unit reveals that a transformation is occurring within corporations. Tomorrow’s organization will move significantly away from “command and control” bureaucracies where all actions need to be cleared upwards. Shorter product life cycles, more intense competition, and the continual globalization of corporations have created an environment where more employees must be empowered to be self-managing. At the same time, empowered individuals will function within clearly defined corporate goals and desired behaviors and, above all, be held accountable for results. What are the impacts of these changes on leadership needs, including the advice needed to help today’s management professional respond.
